Dress Up and Dance to help beat cancer!

Dress up and dance - Fundraising Event | Unistage

4Jun, 2014

On the 20th June, children all over Britain (and the bravest of their teachers!) will be donning fabulous dancewear and shaking their stuff in support of Macmillan Cancer Support’s Dress Up and Dance day!

Dress Up and Dance sees children donating just £2 for the chance to wear their brightest and best outfits to school, and it’s been a roaring success so far.

One tiny donation can make a big difference!

Last year, over 900 schools in the UK took part, raising over £92,000 for Macmillan: an amazing result that has helped the charity continue to provide practical support to the two million people currently living with cancer in the UK.

Here at Unistage, we love helping schools get involved with good causes like this, so we’ve come up with some ideas to help you celebrate Dress Up and Dance in style.

Our modular staging systems, like the flexible Set 24 multi-level stage system, are the perfect platform for your school’s celebrations. Hard-wearing, quiet and really easy for kids to set up, our stages can be configured in literally thousands of ways.

Go crazy on the catwalk!

We all know that some kids need very little excuse to go all-out for non-uniform days, so why not set up your staging system as a catwalk?

Encourage your students to create colourful costumes and strut their stuff – you can even set up creativity workshops where kids can put together an outfit using miscellaneous jumble, craft supplies and anything else you can find!

Prizes for the best dressed, highest hat, prettiest in pink and more are all great ways to get everyone involved!

Hey, Mr DJ: put your records on!

What better way to end Dress Up and Dance Day than with a disco? Our multi-level staging solutions can be used as flat podiums, too, and are the perfect platform for a DJ at your charity school disco.

So go on, make the most of those eye-catching outfits and raise just a bit more for Macmillan by hosting an evening event where the dancing can continue!

Follow my lead…

For younger children, a guided dance session is the perfect way to get up and about. Register with Dress Up and Dance, and your school will receive a toolkit full of fun and educational activities, including a DVD featuring Strictly Come Dancing star Lisa Riley, which encourages children to join in and get dancing.

Why not use a Unistage stage system to get some of your more energetic teachers moving? Kids are sure to have a giggle watching you wiggle up on stage, and it’s a great way to get them involved!
